Jennings Street School

Professional Learning Teams and an integrated service model including Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists, will form the basis for building staff instructional capacity, high standards of professional engagement, a strong sense of collegiality, and a culture of excellence underpinned by differentiated learning and teaching.

Learning at JSS

At Jennings Street School we strive to develop confident and successful learners. The Positive Behaviour Intervention Support Team drives the schools priorities in order to establish a Positive Climate for Learning. This work includes explicit teaching around emotional regulation and social thinking, together with strategies to embed our values of Learning, Respect and Safety into our everyday practices and teachings. Learning and Teaching is designed around the Victorian Curriculum with the planning and delivery underpinned by high expectations. The essential Learnings reported on includes; English, Maths, Inquiry Learning and Personal and Social Capabilities.

The Humanities are taught through an Inquiry Learning approach with a Scope and Sequence of Inquiry topics developed for implementation across each term and progressed through the school to scaffold learning.

Specialty areas include Music, Music Therapy, Art, Physical Education, Swimming and Technology. A STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths,) program provides an alternative learning pathway to engage students in project based learning. The school Cafe and canteen facility provides functional learning opportunities within curriculum pathways aligned to post school learning.

Priority learning goals for students are established in conjunction with parents and carers and achievement progress documented and communicated twice annually within report meetings. The seesaw digital portfolio promotes the home school learning partnership through the sharing of real-time learning.
